Malawi appeal hits the £10,000 mark

THE Harrogate Advertiser's campaign to raise £25,000 to build a second orphanage in Malawi hit a major milestone this week following an anonymous £1,000 donation.
The generous donor has taken our appeal beyond the £10,000, pushing the plans for a new infants' home even closer to fruition.

Our Raise the Roof campaign follows on from the success of the original fundraising efforts in 2003, when readers came together to help build the original Harrogate House in Blantyre.

Now, with the need for a second home further north in Malawi, volunteers have welcomed the high level of support from individuals, schools and community groups across the district.

The new Open Arms building is quickly taking shape and once this is completed volunteers will have less than 18 months to build Harrogate House 2 which will care for the children in Open Arms once they turn two years old.

While the £10,000 already donated is fantastic, we need to keep pushing forward.
