Malawi socialite, lawyer's wife arrested over pornography

Blantyre, Malawi - Police in Malawi's commercial capital, Blantyre, Thurs day arrested a renowned banker and the wife of a prominent lawyer for acting in pornographic materials.

Police spokesman Dave Chingwalu told PANA Grey Nkungula, General Manager of Malawi Switch Centre (Malswitch) - an affiliate of the central bank, the Reserve Bank of Malawi - and Tapiwa Msisha, wife of prominent lawyer, Moderchai Msisha, were arrested following the distribution of pornographic pictures and video clips depicting the two having sex and posing in different pornographic modes.

"We have arrested Mr. Mkungula and Mrs. Msisha and we have charged them with acting in pornographic material and distributing pornographic material which is contrary to Malawi laws," Chingwalu said.

According to the police boss, the police are looking for vendors who are distributing the pornographic pictures and videos.

The steamy pornographic materials have been making the rounds in Malawi since someone distributed them via the internet.

Nkungula reportedly filmed himself engaging in sexual intercourse with various women and stored the pictures on his laptop computer.

The laptop developed a fault and had to be repaired at an IT company where a technician found the "hot" pictures and distributed them via the Internet.

News of the steamy pictures, involving Nkungula, Mshisha and another woman, became talk of the town since they were distributed last weekend with people exchang i ng them via e-mails.

They have also sparked controversy with one school of thought arguing that the" perverts" have to be exposed and brought to book, while others are saying the IT specialist invaded the trios' privacy by distributing the material without the consent of the three "consenting adults".

Chingwalu said it was against the law to act in pornographic materials and distributing the same.

I agree with John's comments. The material was clearly stored on the computer and only distributed by the IT worker...initially. Everyone else who subsequently had a hand in sharing this material via email or otherwise the internet is equally guilty of distribution. By the way, what is the position of any privacy laws in Malawi?
