Malawi netball team triumphs in SA

The Malawi team is currently ranked 5th in the world and it was also at the 5th position in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. The tournament which started on Friday brought together five top netball teams from Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, Malawi and the host South Africa. According to the Daily Times, Tigresses’ manager, Helene Mpinganjira, said he was happy that his team won all their games to crown them winners.

“On the opening day we beat a Tanzanian club 68-44 before trouncing Uganda 37-32 and then Botswana 58-32,” he said.. The team maintained their clean sheet when it beat South Africa 63-35 before meeting Uganda in the final game.

As part of their laurels, the team also won four individual awards - best defender which went to Grace Mwafulirwa, best shooter was Linda Magombo, best coach Peace Chawinga and best umpire Raphael Chalamira.
