Reflections of Malawi

I am now settling back into life in Canada, attempting to put my experience into words for all my friends and family. ‘It was an incredible experience’ is the first thing that comes out of my mouth!

This is usually followed by a description of the kindness I encountered in Malawi. Malawians definitely give Canada’s reputation as being ‘the nice country’ a run for its money!

I learned so much in my short three months stay. I have become very interested in agriculture in the global south. I frequently find myself ranting to people about Malawi’s frustrating current dependency on fertilizers and hybrids and its potential to be so much more sustainable. I did research on agriculture that exists in the wetlands around Mzuzu city. Talking to farmers one on one day after day, was an invaluable experience. I plan on continuing my research and plan on writing a couple papers about Malawian agriculture. I may have physically left Malawi however I still feel a strong almost patriotic connection to Malawi. I encourage everyone to experience the beauty of Malawi.
