50 Cent causes death in Malawi

An entire community simmered into fracas after the death of a 17 year old boy over an American popular rapper 50 Cent's music movie in Malawi, police have disclosed. The incident happened at Area 36 Township a highly congested new residential site near Malawi's capital city Lilongwe on October 21, 2008.

The 17 year old Tikule Fradreki died after he was hit with a brick thrown by his supposed rival Francis Chikondi, 19, who is now in police custody.

Tikule was not in school; he was working at one Restaurant at Lilongwe market and saw two boys he knew very well fighting heavily over the DVD. He intervened with an intention to stop the fight when another boy, Chikondi, sprung from outside the fight and smashed him with the brick, according to statement from the country’s police.

The whole place simmered into no go zone as communities claiming to be relatives of the children engaged in mob justice of each other, in an avenge, revenge or self defense.

Tikule’s relatives joined by some irate people claiming to be their friends invaded a family known as Chanza believed to be the killer’s uncle where they ransacked property worth of thousands of US Dollars.

The grand mother of the deceased, Lucy Sanudi, sought the police refuge when the press found her in a state of trauma.

“I was at church praying when I some small boys told me that my nephew was killed by his friend over a DVD movie,” she said.

The incident started with two separate young men Harris Mwale and Alinafe Kaliati. The two exchanged bitter words scrambling for the DVD titled Get Rich or Die Trying. The deceased intervened just trying to stop the fight for the DVD when a friend to the two rival’s friend jumped in and smashed him with a brick.

Police publicist Ramsey Mshane said there are two rivals groups of youths who call themselves gangsters and they fight over trivial things.
