The chairperson of Malawi’s Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Thengo Maloya, has said that switching from analogue broadcasting to a digital platform would facilitate the country’s advent of modern communications which would provide better sound and quality television images.
Speaking during the Digital Broadcasting Sensitisation workshop for stakeholders in the resort district of Mangochi, he said the switch would give an opportunity for players in broadcasting to advance technologically.
“This is important for developing countries like Malawi because they will now be using modern technology just like those of United States of America (USA),” he said.
African Advanced Level Telecommunications (Afralti) spokesperson Jared Barraza said digital migration uses minimal resources than analogue.
Afralti has set 2015 as a deadline for African broadcasting stations to migrate from analogue to digital.
