CORTLAND — A Walk for Water starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Cortland Conservation Club, 3931 McCleary Jacoby Road, to promote awareness and raise money for a water system for a village in Malawi, Africa. Registration is at 8 a.m.
The walk is sponsored by Lakeview Outreach and Fellowship, which hopes to educate the public on the hardship that women and children experience in Malawi by having to carry water several miles every day.
Participants are asked to carry water, if possible, in recognition of the plight of the people of Malawi. A limited number of plastic jugs will be available, and participants are asked to bring their own. Walks will be either 1 mile or 21‚Ñ2 miles.
