This is just a fantastic story and shows what drive and determination can achieve. William is an inspiration to us all.

For a number of years I have worked with the charity Practical Action, which uses engineering techniques and simple technology to help people out of poverty.

We have seen women start their own hairdressing salons once small micro hydro schemes have been installed,allowing them to start their own businesses and keeping wealth within their village, gravity ropeways in Nepal allowing communities to transport goods, to adapting ploughs so donkeys can use them. But even better - people and communities sharing their knowledge and ideas. It just goes to show that 'small is beautiful'
