Army officer Steve runs marathon in aid of Malawi orphans

IT'S not too late to sponsor an army officer who has completed the London Marathon to raise money for African orphans.

Standing 6ft 5in, Steve Tate, a member Sutton Harriers Athletics Club ran the 26.2 miles for Friends of the Mulanje Orphans in Malawi.

The charity provides food, clothing and education for 4,200 children in one of the poorest countries in Africa.

The 45-year-old married father-of-two explained: "It was a privilege to run and support these unfortunate orphans who have nothing at all and who are only fed three or four times a week."

A veteran of four marathons, Steve - originally from Cornwall but now living in Rainhill, prepared by taking part in cross-country runs and half-marathons.

Cheques can be made out to FOMO and posted to Mrs M. Tipping, 12 Easington Road, Nutgrove, St Helens, WA9 5LW.
